Starships are types of vehicles used by the players for on-planet and inter-planetary travel in No Man's Sky as well as for completing Expeditions.

There are seven types of starships but only six of them can be piloted by the player. This article will cover the first five. See the Freighter and Frigate articles for more information on those types. There are currently twenty-one different ship designs in in every star system. There are seven shuttles, three Fighters, 3 Haulers, three Explorers, one Exotic and four others that are based on the system's dominate Faction.

All starships have a potential maximum of 48 inventory slots. The same upgrades can be equipped to any ship, resulting in identical performance. Along with providing additional inventory space, starships have four additional areas of specification.

These are damage potential, shield absorption, maneuverability, and hyperdrive. These are modified depending on the class of the ship.

Each of the technologies with the exception of inventory can be upgraded using Blueprints. The class of starships player will be able to locate in a given area will depend on the economy of that zone. C-class will spawn in poor areas and the S-Class ships are more readily found in richer economies. Every time a ship lands on a space station, it's attributes are randomly generated, but the design and tier are always the same.

Shuttles are the most balanced starship archetype, as well as the most common ship in use by NPCs. Small shuttles have more storage than most counterparts, but lack a large variant, limiting its popularity among players.

Just wait at a system space station or a planetary trading post and scan incoming ships. That will show you the ships grade and the number of inventory and technology slots it has.

Puddy View Profile View Posts. I was actually struggling to find any wealthy systems tbh, it's hard to keep track of where you've already looked when you're looking around that galaxy map. Just found my first S-Class exotic though, but in a super poor system You have to go to a high economic system. Those have a greater chance of finding the ships. Keep in mind they're super expensive, even with a good ship tradein.

If you find one of those systems go to either a trading post or space station and watch the ships that come in. Just restart once they start to cycle through the same ships. The following is a list of various starships discovered by different players. They are separated by general archetype, then by inventory size, then sorted in alphabetical order.

Remember that each starship is available in all class grades, the maximum inventory size depend of the design of a ship, so it is important to know which design is best suited to you when looking for a new starship. Ships in this class have balanced stats, with no significant class bonus compared to the other archetypes. These ships look typically blocky and small with a square-ish canopy, though some ships in this class do sometimes use a tube-like fuselage.

The Inventory range for Shuttles is for small and for medium. As stated previously, Shuttles do not have a large inventory tier, but are great for starter travelers due to their cheap cost and increased low-tier inventory space. Ships in this class feature a damage potential class bonus. These ships are the mascot ships of No Man's Sky, and are also the primary starships of pirates across the galaxy. Imgur author Sylvester Spaceman has created a Fighter Parts Catalogue and says that for fighters "These are four main body types.

Basically two variations of two types of canopies. Prior to the Atlas Rises update, the game included three "Unique" ships, which are all members of the Fighter class. These do not spawn in systems, as they are either pre-order bonus ships or the Rasamama starter ship:.

The player begins the game with one starship and can acquire additional starships later, up to a maximum of six starships at any one time. Players are not the only entities that use starships. NPC-controlled starshipsincluding pirates and Sentinel Interceptors, populate the skies on planets as well as the interplanetary space within star systems. In addition to acting as a primary source of new starships, NPC starships carry valuable resources and products for sale, and they can be followed to locate certain inhabited points of interest.

Due to the static nature of the seed in No Man's Sky, a well documented ship will always be able to be found again. A system that spawns a rare design - for example an exotic - in its first armada landing on a space station or trade port will always do so on revisit or reload.

The same goes for the wait timers on stations or ports until a ship type shows up. If a particular ship has piqued your interest, finding a station or port it lands on as part of the first group is the best grinding spot. For a list of Starships to scroll through, compare, find locations to buy, and to collect detailed information about, refer to the Starship Catalogue page.

Every star system has 21 different ship designs: 7 shuttle types, 3 ships of each specialist type Fighter, Hauler, or Explorer1 Exotic, and 4 other specialist ships based on that system's dominant race. S-class ships will spawn more often in rich economies. Note that a ship's properties are randomized each time it lands. The only consistency is in the design and thus tier. If you are already in a wealthy system, it can be beneficial to wait for your favorite design to have a good dice roll.

During multiplayer an NPC ship can have a different class for each player. The properties are rolled for each one individually. Each type of ship has three tiers of inventory sizes: a small, medium, and large, though Shuttles do not have a large size inventory. The sizes can be identified by the style of wings or the size of the fuselage for the Shuttle or by scanning the ship using the Analysis Visor. See images below to identify traits of ships with large inventory as well as how to interpret Analysis Visor output.

These ships are the largest out of all the other starships, and may or may not have wing features on them. All multi-tools and starships have a class, which decides the number of slots and the bonus multiplier they get C being the worst and S being the best.

Class is linked to the slot count within the limits set by the inventory tier, and uses the same numbers as the spawn chance. Example : in a poor economy you can occasionally find a small B fighter with the maximum 19 slots.

The class a ship or multi-tool gets is random and weighted depending on the economy level of the system. Exotic ships will always show as S class, even if it would count as a C class for spawning.
